Essential REST API News for 2015/03/02 - REST API Tutorial
Can you believe it is March already? Not only do we have spring to look forward to, but a slew of important API articles. Now that conferences are picking up, some important pieces are finding their way online.
THE PAST WEEK IN API THOUGHT (2015/03/02)API STRATEGY
A couple of weeks ago API2Cart hosted an insightful, high level interview with Manfred Bortenschlager. Manfred is the API Market Development Director for 3Scale. As such, he has tremendous tactical insight on how to achieve effective API management.
FUTURE API CHALLENGES
RESTful APIs aren't only for smart phone apps or Javascript-powered GUIs. The Internet of Things (IoT) promises network topology orders of magnitude greater than what we're currently accustom to building for. On Gigaom, Kin Lane has published his thoughts on Building an API-driven Ecosystem for the Internet of Things. The full report does require free email registration but the insights are worth it.
SCALING THE API ECONOMY
Normally I avoid linking to slide decks. Too often the slides don't make sense out of context of the talk. However, Breaking Point: Building Scalable, Resilient APIs by Mark Hibberd is a lovely, intuitive presentation that beautifully illustrates possible problems. More importantly, he also succinctly provides recommendations on how to overcome them.
UPCOMING NOTABLES
On Thursday, March 12 Mike Amundsen will be leading a free online presentation, "REST, Hypermedia, and the Semantic Gap". For those curious on what Hypermedia is, this is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best.
That's it for this week. Thanks for reading and for all your REST API questions consider giving RESTAPITutorial.com a glance. Till next time,
